Liminal Remote Desktop
A downloadable game for Windows
Play in your browser: https://liminal.rabbithouse.art/remote/
Liminal Remote Desktop is a free idle game by Ged at Rabbit House Games about working remotely for Liminal Corporation, a fictional company. You work on the company's own remote workstation. It is built to be left running.
It also has alternate reality game (ARG) elements in its records, messages and connected sites.
Remote contractors are not issued passwords. The client authenticates the session.
The work
Sign in to Liminal Remote Desktop. No account. No password. Your session opens on a Liminal workstation with a Records Browser, Text Editor, Image Viewer, Bin, Carrier messaging and a Perimeter Monitor. A small client window, Liminal Remote, sends assignments and pays you in credits.
The job is records continuity. Route incoming records to the right folders, rename them to convention, redact names, total an invoice, restore a file from the Bin and transcribe a capture.
Then automate the work with routing rules, macros, a scheduled Nightly Archive and a contracted Site Recovery crew. Work continues while the window is minimised. The Input Continuity Device keeps it going while you are away. Liminal Corporation sells the device. Its own policy prohibits it.
A rule reads the name of a record and nothing else. It routes what it is told to route. It does not read.
The perimeter
A live feed of the Sector 7 containment ring runs around the edge of the desktop. The longer you work, the more comes through. Records decay into glyphs, rename themselves, move, run from the pointer and disappear. Transmit Nodes, work lamps and crews hold it back. Nothing makes it safe.
Do not inspect the faces of figures on the feed.
Some records arrive without a sender. Filing one pays four times as much and recovers a page of an archive. As clearance rises, new kinds of record arrive. There is a field order addressed to you, a second session under your own ID at night, and a handover at the end of each term that renews the contract under the next contractor ID.
Continuity codes
What you do is carried by continuity codes to Beyond Dawn's Observation Station. Codes from Beyond Dawn extend your clearance here.

How to play
Browser: play free in a desktop browser at https://liminal.rabbithouse.art/remote/. Nothing is installed, and nothing you enter leaves your browser. Once loaded, the browser build makes no network requests.
Windows: download the ZIP below. The client adds a tray icon, a Corner panel above the clock, and Overlap, which lays the workstation over your own desktop. It is not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen may warn on first launch.
This is a desktop game. On a phone, the site shows a short page asking for a corp-approved device.
The Windows client keeps its data in its own folder, %APPDATA%\Liminal Remote. Stills you choose to save go to Documents\Liminal; an existing file is never overwritten. The client makes no connections of its own, does not start with Windows and does not update itself.
Acceptable Use Policy: browser version · Windows client.
